  • I/We the undersigned parent, parents, or legal guardian of the registrant, a minor, hereby authorize the BYC and its officers and agents to take whatever actions they believe are warranted under the circumstances for the health and safety of the child, including the placing of the child in the care of a hospital and/or any licensed doctor, dentist or other health care professional. I/We further hereby authorize and consent to any x-­ray, examination, anesthetic, surgical or another medical diagnosis, treatment, or care (in or out of hospital) of the child rendered by a licensed medical doctor, dentist, or other health care professional, at my/our cost and expense. It is understood that this authorization is given in the advance of any such diagnosis, treatment, or care that may be provided to the child in order to give authority and power to render any such diagnosis, treatment, or care that any such licensed doctor, dentist or other health care professional, in the exercise of his/her professional judgment, may deem advisable. It is understood that an effort shall be made to contact the undersigned prior to rendering treatment to the patient, but that any of the above treatment or care may be provided to the child if the undersigned cannot be reached.

    I/We the undersigned parent/guardian recognizes that an element of risk is involved in all water sports, including sailing. Therefore, to induce the BYC to accept his/her child into the BYC Learn-­to-­Sail Program, the undersigned parent/guardian covenants and agrees to hold harmless and indemnify the BYC, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any and all claims, losses, damages, fees, and liability growing out of or in any manner related to injury to a person or damage to any property arising out of or in anywise connected with the operation of the BYC Sailing School or any activities on or the use of any facilities or equipment of the BYC.

    I/We the undersigned parent, parents, or legal, do hereby certify the child enrolled can swim unaided for 100 meters and tread water for one minute.

    I/We understand that I/we are responsible for our child’s or guardian’s behavior and conduct while at the BYC and will see to it that our child adheres to the program rules. I/We agree to assume the obligation for expenses of repair and/or replacement of program equipment that is attributed to our child’s reckless or irresponsible behavior and the expense of medical care if our child is injured. I/We agree to make an appointment for a parent/instructor conference if requested.

  • I promise to maintain a positive attitude and to be always responsible for my conduct while participating in Brockville Yacht Club Sailing School activities, and will follow these rules and regulations and any other rules given by my coach:

    • I will respect the property of others, by not stealing, damaging, destroying, or borrowing another’s property without permission, nor tolerating such behavior by other team members.

    • I will treat peers, coaches, club members, and all others with respect, regardless of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or abilities.

    • I will follow all safety procedures given by my coaches and other responsible adults, understanding the paramount importance of safety. I will notify a coach or other responsible adult if I feel that another sailor is in danger.

    • I will not abuse my fellow participants, whether verbally, physically, or emotionally, nor tolerate such conduct in others, understanding that every sailor has a right to enjoy their participation.

    • I will encourage good sportsmanship from fellow sailors, coaches, and parents.

    • I will attend lessons whenever reasonably possible and will notify the coach if I cannot.

    • I will strive to listen and learn from my coaches.

    • I will be always responsible for my use of BYCSS boats and other equipment and will take care to not damage, lose, or otherwise harm said property.

    Brockville Yacht Club Sailing School employs a zero-tolerance policy with regard to prohibited activities during program hours, on program premises, and during travel events. This includes the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, inappropriate use of controlled substances, and the carrying of weapons. Violation of the zero-tolerance policy could result in immediate dismissal from the program. There will be no refunds or pro-rating of fees for suspensions or expulsions in connection with misconduct. The BYCSS Program Director, staff, and coaches are responsible for enforcing certain rules and may discipline BYCSS participants when rules are broken at practices or while coaching at regattas. When a sailor is under the supervision of a parent chaperone, the parent chaperone will enforce rules and regulations consistent with the BYCSS Disciplinary Action contained herein. In all cases the decision of the BYCSS Program Director is final. The guidelines are as follows:

    Level 1 Infractions - Disciplined at coach's discretion.

    • Failure to obey coaches’ instructions.

    • Failure to display good sportsmanship.

    • Any form of bullying, harassment, inappropriate language, or action.

    Level 2 Infractions - Review for suspension from one or more future program days.

    • Any repeated form of bullying, harassment, inappropriate language, or action

    • Failure to follow coaches’ directions after repeated warnings.

    • Behaviour or conduct which reflects poorly on the BYCSS. These behaviors could include but are not limited to; bad treatment of or talking back to judges, coaches, regatta officials, hosts, parent chaperones, team members, or other competitors.

    Level 3 Infractions - Removal from practice and review for expulsion.

    • Any form of bullying, harassment, inappropriate language, or action where behavior continues after other disciplinary actions have been explored.

    • Purposely damaging or destroying the property of others.

    • Stealing.

    • Fighting and/or serious threats of violence.

    • Using marijuana, alcohol, tobacco, or non-prescribed drugs in any BYCSS setting

    • I will respect the property of others, by not stealing, damaging, destroying, or borrowing another’s property without permission, nor tolerate such behavior by other team members.

    • I will treat my team members, coaches, competitors, regatta officials, hosts, and all others with respect, regardless of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or abilities.

    • I will follow all safety procedures given by my coach and other responsible adults, understanding the paramount importance of safety. I will notify a coach or other responsible adult if I feel that another sailor is in danger.

  • I hereby acknowledge that my child may be photographed while participating in BYC’s Sailing School activities and/or programs; I hereby unconditionally authorize BYC, at its sole discretion, to use any such photographs in brochures, flyers, and any other advertising, promotional or educational materials
